From better coordinated care to improved outcomes to lower costs and reduced mistakes, healthcare providers have a number of incentives to join a health information exchange (HIE).
But HealthcareNY figures a price discount can’t hurt. The New York HIE is offering qualified healthcare providers subsidies through the end of September to connect and contribute data to the HealthlinkNY HIE.
The HealthlinkNY discounts are available to eligible healthcare providers and payers, social services programs, public health agencies, health homes, accountable care organizations, disaster relief agencies, and similar entities. Providers must sign a participation agreement with HealthlinkNY and begin contributing records by September 30, 2018.
Although more than 300 provider organizations have signed HealthlinkNY participation agreements, many haven’t begun submitting their patient records to the HIE. HealthlinkNY said the discounts are designed to encourage these providers to take that next step by offsetting connection costs. In some cases, HealthlinkNY said, a provider’s electronic health records (EHR) vendor already has established a hub connection to HealthlinkNY, which would further reduce connection costs.
“If we want to improve care and avoid repeating tests, it is vitality important that providers contribute medical records to the HIE,” Staci Romeo, HealthlinkNY’s executive director, said in a statement. “Patients see many different healthcare providers, and they all should have access to their patients’ complete health history. Our generous discounts encourage providers to act now rather than wait to connect their electronic health records to the HIE.”
The HealthlinkNY discounts are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can read more information here about how to apply. Check here for information about the New York State incentives, which are administered by the New York eHealth Collaborative.
